His clients include other politicians, dignitaries, models, authors, actors, musicians, and celebrities, according to Carl’s biography on the website of the salon he works for.
In addition to getting the former first lady ready for events, the make-up artist has worked for magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Elle, and Allure.
Carl called Michelle a ‘great collaborator’, telling Glamour: ‘She’s always conscious of setting an example. For Mrs. Obama it’s about being polished in an authentic way.
‘She always looks like herself. To exude the confidence she shows the world, she has to feel great in her own skin.’
To that end, he said his favorite product to use on Michelle is ‘a beautiful nude lip gloss’, adding: ‘Peach, pink, nude-nude — she’s tried them all.’
During her book tour, Michelle will speak in arenas and other performing centers to accommodate crowds far too big for any bookstore.
